TFM has shut down

Posted in News, Notice on November 19, 2018 by Philip

Ed posted this;

Hello folks. it’s with a heavy heart that I must announce that Troll Forged Miniatures is winding down operations. Our casting services will still be offered by Nick Hanger through his new company Metal Oak Casting Studios, but Troll Forged will soon cease operation as a independent entity.

Over time TF has moved away from being a place that creates its own models and became almost purely a support operation for other casting ventures. The organization required to manage this all has become a burden so I (Ed) have decided to step back from that aspect to go back to molding and sculpting as I’ve always wanted to do from the start.

Our previous obligations from the Alien Assimilation Host kickstarter are being managed by Tom Anders of Impact miniatures for organization and shipping and by Nick for casting so that the project will still be fulfilled. We are currently looking at options to have others host our sculpts so that they are still available to the public.

Thank you again for all your support over the years.

Pledge Buy Out Market

Posted in News, Notice on October 4, 2013 by Philip

Queen- ready to master - 1Hello all,

We have been asked by a few people if they buy into our Kickstarter.  Some backers, due of unforeseen circumstances, want to sell theirs. So we have set up a special page;

The Pledge Market

On the Pledge Market you can buy pledges that are on offer using PayPal. Each pledge on offer is a one time deal (stock is set to ‘1’) and once sold it is gone for good.

TFM Kickerstarter

Posted in News, Notice with tags , , on October 16, 2012 by Philip

Ed has launch a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for his personal sculpting drive. With the success of Trollcast Ed has been doing a lot of production work for other companies, to pay the bills, but this has not left any time for himself. He aims to sculpt a new alien line of miniatures, starting with the ‘alien grubs’ (drawings by Des Hanley)

Trollcast sample

Posted in News, Notice on June 22, 2012 by Philip

Over the next month Ed will be dropping in a single Trollcast Goblin in with every order of resin, or metal, miniatures (no minimum value). We want all our customers to get their hands on the new Trollcast material, to work with it, and find out what you think. Being a sculpting collective we lack the research and focus groups of big companies, and need all your help we can get with feedback.

If you have received your Trollcast sample with your order, or have brought one of the new box sets (Armoured Goblins or Alien Brains), please pop back to this post and let us know what you think.

For forum members I’ve opened a new thread on the TFM forum where members can discuss this in more detail.

Getting the (Plastic) Ball Rolling

Posted in News, Notice on June 16, 2012 by Philip

As many of you following TFM’s progress will know, Ed has been slaving away like a mad scientist in the pursuit of the elusive spin castable plastic. The final product is now ready, and we will be releasing the first box sets very soon.

Spin casting plastic is a bonkers idea, and only Ed has managed to pull it off – and I mean Ed really is the only person in the whole world to have achieved this! This new spin casting plastic technique is exclusive to TFM, and the material is called ‘Trollcast’.

Trollcast is a hard (75D) plastic, that is highly heat resistant. At 320F Trollcast will soften, but it will not be damaged (so you could heat, bend, drop in water and reposition it – but you’d have to be careful are these temps).

Trollcast has natural impact resistance, and will not shatter when dropped (or nick like resin). If a thin bit does break, it will snap off clean; which allows for an easy repair. Trollcast is easy to cut, sand, and carves very well even though it’s so hard. To glue Trollcast together we recommend Cyanoacrylate (super glue).

All commercial miniature paints seem to work well. Trollcast can be spray primed or painted on directly.
